Jordan Love has had tumultuous first two years in the NFL. He was drafted into an opportunity that not many get in this league. Sitting behind a future Hall of Fame quarterback for multiple seasons affords a player to learn many things. However, sometimes it also comes with uncertainty and heartbreak. That is what Jordan Love may be experiencing right now. Since Love was drafted he has witnessed Aaron Rodgers win back to back MVPs and sign a $150M dollar extension. For those reasons (among others) Jordan Love has been a name thrown around in trade talks for months. USA Today (via Seahawks Wire) named Seattle as a trade destination.
Jordan Love to Seattle?
Pros: If nothing else, Jordan Love is young (he’s 24 years old) and he still has two seasons left on his rookie contract. His cap number for this year is around $3.37 million and he’ll cost another $3.94 million next season.
Cons: There’s just not much to go on as far as Love’s actual potential on the field. It never made much sense for Green Bay to draft him given who their starter is, so we haven’t had a chance to see Love play much in live-game situations. How he performs during the Packers’ three preseason games in August may have a huge impact on his potential trade value.
The author brings up a very valid point, how Jordan Love performs during the 2022 preseason could be huge. If he plays well and teams see enough to take a chance on him, someone may offer a package.
What Could the Packers get from Seattle?
It is pretty safe to assume that most Packers fans would want to see Tyler Lockett or DK Metcalf come to Green Bay. Any trade package that involves the Seahawks will certainly target those two. Whether or not Seattle is willing to part with either one of those players is a completely different conversation. This trade was proposed by an NFL Analyst prior to the 2022 NFL Draft:
Proposed Trade:
Seattle receives:
- QB Jordan Love
- Pick #53 in 2022 NFL Draft (second round)
- Pick #171 in 2022 NFL Draft (fifth round)
Packers receive:
- WR Tyler Lockett
- Pick #152 in 2022 NFL Draft (fifth round)
If something similar were to be offered for the 2023 NFL draft along with a player like Lockett (or Lockett himself) it would be hard to imagine Green Bay passing up that opportunity. There is one thing to keep in mind however, and that is how long Aaron Rodgers plans to play. If the feeling around 1265 Lombardi Ave is that this will be his last season, will Green Bay want to move on from Love? Does the front office in Green Bay feel like Love is the future whether or not Rodgers plays another season after 2022? Many questions could be answered in the next few months as pre-season comes and goes.
