It has been a controversial week in the NFL especially for the refs. If the horrible Tom Brady roughing the passer call was not enough, Monday Night Football saw a couple of calls and non-calls that left everyone scratching their heads. The broadcast booth also had some strong opinions. Troy Aikman goes off on the NFL competition committee.

Aikman did not mince words about what he thought about the recent calls in the NFL. “I hope the competition committee looks at this the next NFL meeting, and we take the dresses off”. Aikman said on the broadcast. He was referencing a roughing the passer call on the Chiefs. The refs called the penalty because the defender put his whole weight on the quarterback. However, in replays there was some question on that. Plus, Derek Carr fumbled the ball which should mean the protections for the quarterback are off. Aikman thinks it is really affecting the competition of the game.
Not A Great Week For The Refs
Overall the refs had a rough week especially on roughing the passer calls. There was another play in Monday night’s game where Patrick Mahomes was thrown to the ground in a similar fashion to Brady. No call from the refs. Packers fans are well versed in roughing the passer controversy with the one season where Clay Matthews kept getting flagged for ridiculous calls. The NFL still hasn’t fixed their problems. The call is so subjective and seems that certain aspects of the rule come into play at random times.
It is interesting to sit and listen as Troy Aikman goes off on the NFL. Monday Night Football is a national broadcast with lots of ears. Getting this kind of criticism in such a public way should concern the NFL. Hopefully the NFL can make the necessary changes and stop these ridiculous calls.
