After being signed late by the Brewers this spring, Travis Shaw has seen a great deal of playing to begin the 2021 season. Unfortunately, a night after delivering a clutch two out two RBI double to give the Brewers their fifth straight win, Travis Shaw was removed from tonight’s game after sustaining a shoulder dislocation.

The injury occurred in the second inning of Wednesday nights game. With a ball hit to Travis Shaw’s right side, he extended his glove hand to make a diving play. Upon landing it appeared he jammed his left arm hard into the ground. He immediately was grimacing in pain.
It took a few minutes for Travis Shaw to be escorted off the ball diamond by the athletic trainers. Luis Urias, who had previously been at second base, moved over to third for the remainder of the game and Jace Peterson came in to play second base.
With the injury, Travis Shaw will now be out for an extended period of time. As a result, the Brewers will need to turn to replacement options at third base.
Luis Urias is the likely favorite to see increased playing time, especially at third base. With Kolton Wong additionally on the IL he could play there as well. However Urias has a strong throwing arm that is fit enough to man the hot corner. It also helps that he has been very productive offensively as of late.
Other players such as Zach Green, Pablo Reyes, and Jace Peterson all could fill in at third base in the interim as well. Thankfully David Stearns has assembled a plethora of MLB ready players at the position so the Brewers should be able to weather this injury fairly well.
