Head coach Matt LaFleur said Green Bay Packers are using their spring OTAs to gauge where the young offense is before deciding if they want to use their precious cap space on bringing in outside help. One NFL analyst has a trade proposal that would flip a Packers starting offensive lineman for a veteran wide receiver.
LaFleur said during the League Annual Meeting that he’d like for the Packers to bring in a veteran wide receiver to work with quarterback Jordan Love in his first season as a starter. The Packers were aggressive in bringing pass-catching help in the 2023 NFL Draft. But the Packers’ offense could still use some experience in the wide receiver room.
The Green Bay Packers could trade Jon Runyan Jr.
Jonathan Delray of Bleacher Report has a potential solution for the Packers’ front office. He suggests that the Packers make another trade with the Las Vegas Raiders. The Packers traded Davante Adams to the Raiders last year, so two front office’s have familiarity with each other. Delray thinks the Packers could swap Jon Runyan Jr. for wide receiver Hunter Renfrow this year.
“In 2022, of course, we know the Raiders made this world of changes, and Renfrow didn’t exactly do well with it. He played in only 10 games, he was injury-hampered all year,” Delray said. “And rumors have persisted that he’s going to be a post-June 1 trade.”
Delray said the trade would make sense for the Raiders as well, as they need an offensive guard.
“The Raiders are looking specifically for a right guard. [Runyan] is entering the last year of his contract,” Delray said. “[The Packers front office] have been continuing to talk about Zach Tom, even more, being an interior lineman, that he’s going to compete at center, right guard, and right tackle, wherever they can fit in for their best five. So if you want to ship off Jon Runyan to the Raiders, it’s possible.”
Delray thinks the Packers could trade Runayan and a fourth-round draft pick for Renfrow.
Hunter Renfrow has qualities the Green Bay Packers could use
Renfrow has had some great seasons with the Raiders since he was drafted in 2019. He made the Pro Bowl in 2021 after netting 1,038 receiving yards and nine touchdown receptions. Renfrow missed a few games last season due to two brain injuries. Renfrow could be the perfect receiver for Love this season to complement Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs.
The Packers could afford to lose Runyan with their stacked offensive line. Bringing Tom inside to start in place of Runyan would allow the Packers to start Yosh Nijman at right tackle. The current projected backup for Runyan is Royce Newman.
This could be one of the easiest for the Packers to bring in a veteran without giving up too much cap space or draft capital. We’ll see if the Packers make a move next week after the June 1 deadline.

There isnt any aspect of this article sitting well with me. Why would the Packers consider trading a promising young starting OL for a smallish non athletic 4th year wideout coming off injury? And add a 4th round pick for him? Thats crazy. I wouldnt do this trade straight up nor would I accept a 4th round pick and said player in return.
