After 23 seasons in the NFL, Tom Brady has announced his retirement (we think this time for good).

Brady is #1, Favre, Rodgers #4 and #5 in career TD passes

Brady sits atop the NFL list for most TD passes in a career with 649. After Drew Brees and Peyton Manning in the #2 and #3 spots, two Green Bay Packers QBs are at #4 and #5 on the career TD pass list: Brett Favre had 508 career TD passes; Aaron Rodgers is 33 TD passes behind Favre with 475.

Brady played from 2000-2022. Favre was a contemporary of Brady’s for the first half of his career (Favre played from 1991-2010), while Rodgers was a contemporary of Brady’s in the second half of Brady’s career (Rodgers’ career spans 2005-2022).

Let’s look at a few stats comparing Brady, Favre and Rodgers.

From 2000-11, Brady played in 161 regular season games. Three hundred of his 649 career TD passes came in the first half of his career. Those 300 TD passes from 2000-11 ranked second most in the league in that timeframe behind Peyton Manning who had 347 TD passes from 2000-11. Favre was fourth on the list with 273 TD passes; Rodgers was 18th with 132 TD passes.

Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers were #1 and #2 in TD passes from 2012-22

From 2012-22, Brady played in 174 games regular season games. He topped the list with the most TD passes those years with 349. Aaron Rodgers was second on the list with 343.

If we break down the TD passes based on age, it’s interesting to note that Brady really charged to the top of the TD pass list when he turned 30. In fact. Brady had 50 TD passes in 2007 (most in his career) after turning 30. Here is a look at how many TD passes Brady, Favre and Rodgers had during their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s.

Where Brady, Favre and Rodgers ranked in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s

Most TD passes in their 20’s: Dan Marino tops the list with 245. Brett Favre was third with 218, Aaron Rodgers was 6th with 186, and Tom Brady was 26th with 147.

Most TD passes in their 30’s: Drew Brees had the most TD passes in his 30’s with 352. Brady was second on the list with 309; Rodgers was fourth with 289 and Favre was sixth with 254.

Most TD passes in their 40’s: Brady is the clear cut champion in this stat. He sits at #1 with 193 TD passes in his 40’s. Second most is Drew Brees with 51. Favre was fourth on the list with 36. Rodgers, if he decides to continue playing, does not turn 40 until December 3, 2023.

If we look at Passer Rating, again, Brady’s Passer Rating seemed to get better as he aged. In his 20’s, Brady’s Passer Rating ranked 42nd at 88.4 (Rodgers was #2 at 103.2; Favre 38th at 88.8). In his 30’s, Brady’s Passer Rating was fourth at 102.5 (Rodgers was third at 102.6; Favre 48th at 83.5). In his 40’s, Brady’s Passer Rating is second at 97.1; Favre is 3rd at 90.2.
