Tobias Myers was one of four players involved in the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets blockbuster this off-season. Freddy Peralta was the headliner, but Myers was moved in the same transaction, with Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat coming back the other way as the return package.

Unsurprisingly, much of the attention has centered on Peralta, how he’ll perform in New York during a contract year, and whether the Mets might pursue an extension before he reaches free agency. There’s also been considerable debate about how Milwaukee plans to deploy Sproat, as well as whether they’ll start the service-time clock for Williams, who is not yet on the 40-man roster. However, the Brewers’ recent addition of Luis Rengifo may have provided some clarity on that front.

The spotlight on those headliners has somewhat overshadowed Myers’ inclusion in the deal. Yet he had been a steady contributor for the Brewers, providing value both as a starter and out of the bullpen. He also delivered a dominant postseason performance in 2024, coincidentally coming in a win-or-go-home game against the Mets.

Here, we take a look at some recent comments from Myers, who opened up to Danny Abriano of SNY about being traded, his potential role in 2026, and his goals.

Abriano first had Myers reflect back to when he found out the Brewers were trading him. Myers mentioned he had been attempting to take a 30 minute nap, when his wife informed him that his agent was trying to contact him. Interestingly, Myers was also trying to nap in 2017 when the Tampa Bay Rays traded him to the Baltimore Orioles.

Once Myers came in contact with his agent, Milwaukee’s own Matt Arnold personally called him and informed him of the trade news. Myers detailed that this was a good conversation.

Now in New York, Myers says that he has been told he may be used both as a starting pitcher and a reliever. He also said while his goal is to bring a championship to the Mets organization, right now he is focused on being the best teammate and doing anything he can to help the team win.
