Kevin Durant has requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets. The front office in Brooklyn has agreed to work on a trade that would move the superstar and Kyrie Irving will, indeed, test free agency. Now, while a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks is FAR from likely, it is still fun to think about. That being said, here are three trades that, in theory, would work to pair Durant with Giannis Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee.
Trade No. 1 for Kevin Durant
Milwaukee Bucks Receive: Kevin Durant
Brooklyn Nets Receive: Khris Middleton and Grayson Allen
Grayson Allen has been the subject of trade rumors all offseason. After his ho-hum showing against the Boston Celtics in the playoffs, it became apparent that Milwaukee needs an upgrade at the shooting guard position. While this trade does not net the Bucks an improvement at guard, it sure does help in terms of scoring. It would also mean the Bucks would pursue an affordable free agent to play guard.
Trade No. 2 for Kevin Durant
Milwaukee Bucks Receive: Kevin Durant
Brooklyn Nets Receive: Jrue Holiday and Brook Lopez
This trade is interesting because it gives the Milwaukee Bucks one of the most dynamic scorers in NBA history while returning the Nets’ all-time leading scorer to their team. Many people forget that Brook Lopez is the Nets’ all-time leader in points, blocks, and offensive win shares. If this trade were to happen, the Bucks would need to find two new point guards, as George Hill proved to be ineffective and Holiday would be gone. Jevon Carter could re-sign and Milwaukee could find a new point guard on the free agent market.
Trade No. 3 for Kevin Durant
Milwaukee Bucks Receive: Kevin Durant
Brooklyn Nets Receive: Khris Middleton and George Hill
If the Milwaukee Bucks were to acquire Kevin Durant, they would have to include Jrue Holiday or Khris Middleton in order to make the money work. Of the two, Middleton makes the most sense to move because he and Durant both are front-court players. Additionally, as mentioned previously, the Bucks need a new backup point guard. Trading away Holiday would create a serious hole in the backcourt that having Durant and Giannis on the same team may not even be enough to hide.
Final Thoughts
Look, I know none of these will happen. You know none of these will happen. However, imagining a team with two of the best players on the planet on it is just a fun exercise. Kevin Durant IS going to be traded, just not to the Bucks.
