On Sunday night the Packers defeated the Bears 45-30. Another win for the Packers and another near perfect performance from Bears owner Aaron Rodgers. While there is plenty to talk about for this game, I’ve narrowed down three takeaways that highlight the win over the bears. Let’s get into the talking points from this game.
Special Teams
Every week as Packers fans we hold our breath when Special Teams are the active group on the field. It’s been a tumultuous season so far for Maurice Drayton’s group. While the Special Teams have been downright bad, it’s come to the point where something has to be done. The Special Teams group has come to the point where they will and can cost us in the playoffs.
Something has gone wrong nearly every week. Luckily we played the Bears, and luckily we have Aaron Rodgers. If something doesn’t change soon, we’re in bad shape.
In the first half, the Packers gave up 213 yards on returns. If that doesn’t make you want to pull out your hair, then I envy you. These first-half statistics recorded by Matt Schneidman of The Athletic sum up the abysmal performance from Special Teams quite nicely.
Again, if nothing changes now, we may be going home early in the playoffs once again.
Aaron Charles Rodgers
The Bears owner had another beautiful performance last night. In 27 regular-season games against the Bears, Rodgers now has 61 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions. He has a record of 22-5 in those games. He might as well get a key to the city of Chicago, it’s only right. On top of his beautiful performance vs. the Bears, Rodgers made some throws that nobody else can make. A touchdown to Adams, and a beautiful 32-yard bomb to Lazard.
Nobody does it like Rodgers, vs. the Bears, or anyone for that matter.
Let’s all hope that isn’t the last game we see Aaron face Virgina McCaskey and the rest of his beloved ownership group.
Matt LaFleur
We can’t talk about this game without talking about the NFL’s hottest coach, both in looks, and play-calling ability.
LaFleur, after all, is the master behind our masterful offense. Sunday night vs. the Bears was another grand performance. The Packers have suffered likely the most injuries of anyone in the NFL this season. It’s been next man up all season. Whether it be down, to 3rd string offensive lineman, or without our top three wide receivers, LaFleur has been up for the challenge.
With all the adversity that we’ve seen with the Packers this year, LaFleur not only hasn’t lost the team, but I believe they’re stronger than ever. We’ve seen new guys step in all season long, and a huge credit to Matt for how well everyone has meshed whether it be on offense or defense. We’ve all seen the adversity and criticism that Urban Meyer has faced in Jacksonville. It could have easily been as bad in Green Bay. But all the credit in the world to MLF for keeping up the tradition in Green Bay and making this team stronger than ever.
He certainly deserves to be in the talks for coach of the year after achieving another clean sweep of the Bears in his 3rd year in Green Bay.
