After the recent additions of linebacker Christian Kirksey, and offensive tackle Rick Wagner. The Packers are left with a little over $15 million dollars of cap space. These moves help take care of needs at offensive line and the middle of the defense. Lets take a look at other positions and free agents the Packers can improve their team with.
Wide Receiver: Robby Anderson
Ever since the days of Jordy Nelson, the Packers have missed having a true deep threat that can burn defenses with speed. The solution to that problem is Robby Anderson.
The speedster complied 3,059 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns in his four seasons with the Jets. Having Anderson would keep defenses honest and present a lot of one on one match ups for Aaron Rodgers to take advantage of.
Tight End: Eric Ebron
The Packers cut Jimmy Graham, and Marcedes Lewis is currently a free agent. This leaves Jace Sternberger, Evan Baylis, and Robert Tonyan as the current tight end group. On one hand, the Packers can roll the dice and see who emerges from this group as a consistent play maker. Or, bank on a bounce back campaign from Eric Ebron.
Eric Ebron is only two seasons removed from a 13 touchdown season with the Colts. In that same season Ebron caught 66 balls for 750 yards. In that same season 10 of his 13 touchdowns came in the redzone. That sort of production in the red zone would still be a huge boost for a team that scored a touchdown on 68.9 percent of their red zone trips (ranked 2nd in the NFL). Considering the down year he had (31 rec, 375 yards, three touchdowns) caused by sharing time with Jack Dolye. Eric Ebron could be acquired on a team friendly contract which, in return, could pay off tremendously. He shouldn’t have much competition for playing time in this offense.
Defensive Line: Ndamukong Suh
This option may be the most expensive out of the three, but for a team that is in win now mode, this might be the most beneficial. The Packers ended the 2019 season with having the 26th ranked run defense. Kenny Clark, for as good as he is, still needs help on the defensive front to stop the run.
Even with only totaling 2.5 sacks last year Ndamukong Suh was huge factor in Tampa Bay with helping them have the number one ranked rush defense. He will most likely be looking for a one year deal which will be perfect for a team like the Packers that are looking to make it back to another Super Bowl.
