For the fourth time this season (and the second time in five days), the Milwaukee Bucks had three different players collect double-doubles in the same game. In the 123-113 win over Washington on Tuesday, Giannis had a career-high 55 points to go along with 10 rebounds, Brook Lopez had 21 points and 12 boards, and Bobby Portis came off the bench to collect 17 points and 13 rebounds.
For Giannis and Portis, it was the 22nd double-double for each player on the season. The Bucks’ teammates are tied for third in the league for double-doubles this season. Double-double leaders for this season:
NBA double-double leaders this season
27-Domantas Sabonis, Sacramento
26-Nikola Jokic, Denver
22-Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee
22-Bobby Portis, Milwaukee
20-Julius Randle, N.Y Knicks
19-Tyrese Haliburton, Indiana
19-Luka Doncic, Dallas
Giannis and Portis are two of six Bucks’ players who have recorded double-doubles this season. Jrue Holiday has seven, Lopez has three, and Joe Ingles and Jevon Carter have one each.
The 56 double-doubles by the team is tied for first in the NBA this season. The Bucks are tied with Atlanta for most double-doubles this season. Teams with the most double-doubles this season in the league:
Most double-doubles by team in 2022-23
56-Milwaukee, Atlanta
47-L.A. Lakers
45-Indiana
44-Cleveland
40-Denver
With 56 double-doubles in their first 37 games, the Bucks are on a pace to record 124 double-doubles on the season. The team record is 150. That was accomplished in the 1972-73 season. The Bucks as a team have recorded 100 or more double-doubles in six different seasons… each season from 1968-69 to 1973-74. If this year’s team can get over the 100-mark, it would be the seventh time in team history and the first time since the 1973-74 season.
Giannis and Bobby could become second Bucks’ teammates to each record 30 double-doubles
Finally, Giannis and Bobby are looking like they will become the second set of Bucks teammates to each record 30 or more double-doubles in the same season. The only other time it happened was in 1986-87 when Jack Sikma had 34 double-doubles and Terry Cummings added 30 that year.
