The Green Bay Packers have a few question marks at wide receiver as they enter 2022. Davante Adams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Equanimeous St. Brown are gone. Sammy Watkins, who has a long injury history and is not at voluntary OTA’s, was signed as a free agent. Green Bay also used three of their 11 draft picks on wide receivers. In other words, there is a great deal of unproven talent in their wide receiver room. This, of course, includes last year’s third round draft pick, Amari Rodgers. Due to these questions, the Packers have long been connected to free agent wide receiver Julio Jones. Recently, PFF made a prediction of what Jones’ salary will look like.
The Packers Would Pay Julio Jones $10 Million for One Year
According to the prediction by PFF, Julio Jones will get a one-year deal worth $10 million. Fully guaranteed. Now, Jones has an recent injury history of his own. He only played in nine games in 2020 and just 10 games last season. Hopefully he has left those injury problems in the past, but there is no guarantee that Jones will remain healthy for a full season.
That being said, the healthy of Julio Jones is only one factor that the Packers need to consider when deciding if they want to offer him a contract. According to a recent salary cap update, the Green Bay Packers have the third most cap space on the 51-man roster. A $10 million contract for Julio Jones would eat up over half of the $17 million they have available. Green Bay still needs to sign Christian Watson, their practice squad, and Allen Lazard. Additionally, they like to keep money available for mid-season acquisitions. $10 million for the season may be a little too steep for the Packers.
