One of the strongest positions on the Packers right now is the offensive line. When healthy, the Packers offensive line is among the best in the NFL.
In his first season as the starting quarterback Jordan Love will be behind a solid veteran line and will have solid pass protection in front of him. The Packers did not sign any offensive lineman in Free Agency or take one in the NFL Draft this year, showing how much confidence they have in the group they currently have. The Packers offensive line really has a good problem.
The Packers Offensive Line Has a Very Good Problem
Will Have a Fully Healthy Group With David Bakhtiari & Elgton Jenkins
In the last two years, the Packers offensive line started the season somewhat makeshift. David Bakhtiari and Elgton Jenkins recovering from ACL injuries affected the offensive line tremendously. The Packers struggled when both were not in the starting lineup. Last year at the beginning of the season, both players struggled trying to get back into football shape after missing quite a bit of time. However, in the back half of the season, they got back to full strength, and the Packers offensive line played very well. This year David and Elgton will be in the starting lineup in Week 1 for the first time since 2020 and will create one of the best left guard/tackle duos in the NFL.
Zach Tom Will Most Likely Be In The Starting Lineup
Zach Tom will look to be the next great member of the Packers offensive line. He was a late-round steal for the Packers and played well in every game he played as a rookie. Tom was ranked the best pass-blocking rookie, only giving up one sack. He can play any position on the offensive line and most likely will be in the starting lineup.
Offensive Coordinator Adam Stenavich stated that center, right guard, and right tackle are open competitions. Tom could be an option at center if Josh Myers struggles, take Jon Runyan‘s starting position at right guard, or even beat out Yosh Ninjman for the right tackle job. The Packers want to start their best five, and Zach Tom seems to be part of it this season.
Deep At Offensive Tackle
The Packers are pretty deep at offensive tackle this year. They have David Bakhtiari at left tackle. Right tackle is a wide-open competition, but they have very good options. They have Tom or Yosh Nijman, most likely at right tackle. Also, we can not forget about Caleb Jones and Rasheed Walker, who, if both take that next step this year, could be the future at tackle. In addition, they could have Elgton Jenkins, if needed to play tackle. However, the Packers plan to keep him at his best position, which is left, guard. This is probably the deepest the Packers have ever been at tackle, and they really have solid players that can fill both positions.
