The likelihood of Green Bay trading for a number one wide receiver in the league, and extending them on a long term deal seems to get less likely by the day. Stefon Diggs is the latest wide receiver to receive a huge pay day.
Five Highest paid wide receivers:
Five: DJ Moore, Carolina:
DJ Moore received a three year contract extension this off-season worth $61.8 million dollars. He received $41.6 million dollars in guarantees. He has an annual salary of $20.6 million.
Four: Stefon Diggs, Buffalo
Defon Diggs just received a four year, $104 million dollar contract extension. He is guaranteed $70 million dollars. His annual salary is $26 million.
Three: DeAndre Hopkins, Arizona
When Hopkins signed his contract, it was expected to be the contract to beat for years, however it only lasted a few years. His annually salary of $27.25 comes in at third in the NFL for wide receivers.
Two: Davante Adams, Las Vegas
Packers fans won’t be surprised by this one. Adams signed a monster 5 year $141.25 million contract after being traded to the Raiders. His annual salary comes in at $28.25 million.
One: Tyreek Hill, Miami
Hill was another star wide receiver traded this off-season to get the “bag” after being traded to Miami. Hill signed a $120 million dollar contact with an annual salary of $30 million.
6-10:
6. Keenan Allen, Los Angeles ($20.03 million)
T-7. Amari Cooper, Cleveland ($20 million)
T-7. Mike Williams, Los Angeles ($20 million)
T-7. Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay ($20 million)
10. Michael Thomas, New Orleans ($19.25 million)
If you have been wondering why Green Bay hasn’t traded for a start wide receiver yet, this list may shed some light. Not only will Green Bay have to give up draft capital, but they will have to pay A LOT of money in a long term contract. DK Metcalf, Terry McLaurin, AJ Brown are the three names circling around as possible trade targets. Every single one of those guys will eventually be on this list. While Green Bay was willing to pay Davante, that didn’t come with losing any draft capital. Green Bay may turn to free agency and the draft, ONLY.
