The Green Bay Packers are opening the 2022 NFL season as the betting favorites to beat the Minnesota Vikings in Week One. Multiple sportsbooks, including Tipico and DraftKings have the Packers as -1.5 favorites to win. This is fairly significant as Green Bay will be playing on the road in Minnesota.
The Packers Are the Better Team
Green Bay may have lost Davante Adams this offseason, but the sports books and many analysts still believe they are still the best team in the NFC North. Back in July, Fox Bets gave the Packers the fourth-best odds to win the Super Bowl this season. Additionally, Pointsbet favors the Packers to repeat as champions of the NFC North. Of this week’s game, DraftKings posted the following:
“Prior to last season’s loss in Week 1, Green Bay had rattled off six straight seasons of starting off the year with a win. Both teams have questions on their rosters and the loss of Adams remains to be seen for the Packers. Overall, the Packers roster still boasts a great deal of talent and 1.5 points should be an easy spread for the likes of Rodgers and the Packers.”
The Green Bay Packers Are Not the Only Road Teams Favored to Win
As mentioned previously, the Packers are favored to beat the Vikings despite opening the season on the road. Of the 16 games being played this week, the road team is favored in 10 of them. (Per Tipico, see link above). The road teams that are betting favorites to win include the San Francisco 49ers (-6.5) over the Chicago Bears. It also includes the Philadelphia Eagles (-3.5) over the Detroit Lions. If the results end up following the odds, the Packers will go into Week Two with an early lead in the NFC North. This would set them up to take over as the NFL’s all-time winningest franchise in Week Two.
