Did you know that the Green Bay Packers’ franchise have had the most prolific group of receivers in the history of the National Football League?
There have been 78 players in league history who have caught 400 or more passes and scored 50 or more TDs via pass receptions with a franchise. Of those 78, the Packers top the list with six players who caught 400+ passes and scored 50+ TDs via pass reception for the team. Those players:
Players with 400 receptions and 50 TD catches in career with Packers
Davante Adams, 669 catches, 73 TD receptions
Donald Driver, 743 catches, 61 TD receptions
Antonio Freeman, 431 catches, 57 TD receptions
Greg Jennings, 425 catches, 53 TD receptions
Jordy Nelson, 550 catches, 69 TD receptions
Sterling Sharpe, 595 catches, 65 TD receptions
(Note: Of the six, only Driver and Sharpe played their entire career with the Packers.)
While the Packers have six receivers who achieved these numbers, no other NFL franchise has more than four. Here are the number of players who had 400+ receptions and 50+ TD receptions with each franchise.
Players with 400 catches/50 TD receptions for each franchise
6-Packers
4-Falcons, Bengals, Cowboys, Colts, Chiefs, Chargers, Vikings, Commanders
3-Broncos, Raiders, Dolphins, Patriots, Steelers, 49ers
2-Cardinals, Panthers, Lions, Texans, Rams, Saints, Jets, Seahawks
1-Bills, Jaguars, Giants, Eagles, Bucs, Titans
0-Ravens, Bears, Browns
The Packers’ franchise just missed having two more players on this list. James Lofton fell one TD reception short with 530 catches and 49 TD receptions. After nine seasons with Green Bay, Lofton was traded to the Raiders. Max McGee had 345 catches and 50 TD receptions in a 12-year career with the Packers before retiring after the 1967 season.
Might Randall Cobb join the group?
There is, however, the possibility of another Packers’ player joining the list. Randall Cobb has already caught 524 passes in a Packers’ uniform to qualify in that stat. He is three TD receptions short of the 50-TD mark with 47 as a Packer. He could snag three TD passes this season to reach the mark or come back for another season with the Pack in 2023. Cobb did spend two seasons in Dallas and Houston (2019, 2020) where he had six TDs and 93 receptions.
