The Green Bay Packers will have a lot of decisions to make this off-season. Aaron Rodgers will be atop that list as the Packers await his decision. Next on the list? It is hard to find a name more important than Aaron Jones. Jones is one of the best playmakers on the Green Bay Packers offense. Presently, Jones is set to count for $20 million against the salary cap in 2023. This is a substantial sum; however, the Packers have proven they are able to get creative to keep the players that they want. Brian Gutekunst has stated he clearly wants Aaron Jones back in 2023. However, if the Packers decide to move on from Jones, there is an AFC powerhouse team that could make an offer.
Aaron Jones Listed As Trade Target For The Buffalo Bills
One of the Bills’ key free agents this year is running back Devin Singletary, who hasn’t done much to solidify a contract to stay in Buffalo. He’s had his moments, but for the most part is very replaceable. Buffalo drafted James Cook last year to come in and ideally be “the guy,” but he may not be able to handle that full-time type of role. It’s another offseason where we’re thinking Buffalo could use an upgrade at running back. A possibility would be landing a proven commodity via trade, and the Green Bay Packers could have the perfect option.
It actually isn’t as crazy as it might sound, because Green Bay could save $10.4 million by moving on from Aaron Jones this offseason. The Packers also drafted AJ Dillon to eventually be their lead back, or so it may seem. Pairing Jones with Cook and Nyheim Hines could drastically change the Bills’ back field and offense in general. He’s one of the better dual-threat backs in football; a guy who can do severe damage both on the ground and through the air.
Over Aaron Jones last four seasons, he has rushed for 1,000 yards three times but has ended up with over 1,000 yards from scrimmage in every one of those years. Jones is 28 years old, so he’s at the age where the Packers could consider moving on from him before he hits a wall. If the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Jones can’t come to an agreement regarding his massive cap hit in 2023, they could consider trading him. The Bills have the 27th overall pick in the first round 2023 NFL Draft. They will have six total selections in the 2023 NFL Draft – 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th (from Arizona), and 6th.
