St. Louis Cardinals rookie Masyn Winn had a first hit that he will never forget. On Friday night, against the New York Mets, he beat out a ball hit in the infield and recorded his first MLB hit. After the play had concluded first baseman Pete Alonso accidentally threw the ball into the stands.
Pete Alonso went on to apologize profusely afterwards and indicated that in the heat of the moment he simply had a brain fart. Thankfully the baseball was able to be retrieved, but as a part of his apology he also elected to send the 21 year old rookie a pair of gifts.
Masyn Winn, St. Louis Cardinals rookie, was gifted two items from New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso after a mishap with the baseball from his first career hit.
The two items that Masyn Winn received from Pete Alonso was a bottle of Don Julio 1942 Tequila and an autographed bat with a personalized message. On the baseball bat the words Just as a ‘Hey, hope you have a great career, sorry about last night, my mistake, wish you well” are inked on it.
It’s likely that this baseball bat will find a home somewhere near the baseball from his first career hit and will help tell the tale of a moment that he will never forget. As for the tequila, a 750 mL bottle typically runs in the $170-$200 range, so it was nice of Alonso to include that.
