The Texans wide receiver room has changed a lot from the end of last season. The team traded All Pro wide out Deandre Hopkins. Then the team traded for Brandin Cooks after acquiring Randall Cobb from free agency. The team now goes into the season with Will Fuller, Randall Cobb, and Brandin Cooks as the projected top guys. This creates question marks for a guy like Kenny Stills who has more to offer than to be a complementary piece. Many experts project him to be on the move, and Green Bay could use the help.
Why?
The Packers clearly went into, and sent a message in, the draft by not drafting a single wide receiver. The team however did add Devin Funchess on a one year deal. The Packers have a lot of confidence in their wide receivers, but Kenny Stills could provide a lot for the team. Outside of Davante Adams, the team doesn’t have a receiver that has proven he can be a consistent player this coming season. Funchess is coming off an injury, and Lazard has shown flashes. But is it enough?
Stats
Stills, by no means, is a superstar that would be a game breaker for the Packers. However he is a solid player who could bring experience to a receiver room that will be competing for playing time. In 2019 Stills had:
- 561 Yards with only 5 starts.
- Four touchdowns
- 72.7 Catch %
- 14 Yards/Reception
He did all this while playing behind Will Fuller and Deandre Hopkins. For comparison the Packers number two wide receiver, Allen Lazard, has the following stats:
- 477 Yards
- Three Touchdowns
- 67.3 Catch %
- 13.63 Yards/Reception
Overall
The Packers are a team that was one game away from the Super Bowl a year ago. A piece like Stills could provide the help at receiver they need. It’s beneficial for the team to trade for a guy like Stills right now, as opposed to trying to trade for a receiver at the deadline like last season.
As Always
What do you think about the Packers trading for Kenny Stills. Is there another wide out they should target. Feel free to share.
