The Milwaukee Brewers and the Schamburg Boomers have quite the connection. In the past, the Brewers have selected the contracts of RHP Jake Cousins, RHP Ryan Middendorf, and LHP Darrell Thompson from the Boomers. Former Boomers pitching coach Connor Reed was even added as a coach in the Brew Crews minor league system. Most recently, right-handed pitcher Tanner Shears became the latest player to join Milwaukee as his contracted was selected by the Brewers.
The Boomers are excited to announce that RHP Tanner Shears has had his contract purchased by the Milwaukee Brewers. In 2022 he sported a 2-0 record with a 1.02 ERA.
We wish you all the best, Tanner!

Who is the Brewers newest pitcher Tanner Shears?
Shears played college ball at Sacramento State and Modesto Junior College before arriving at the University of Chicago in 2021. During his first year with Chicago, he appeared in 13 games that included six starts. In his second season, he operated strictly out of the bullpen. He made 24 appearances, threw 29 innings, had a 3.41 ERA, and struck out 37 batters.
After college baseball, Shears joined the Schamburg Boomers in 2022. During his rookie season with the Boomers he pitched 35.1 innings, had a 1.02 ERA, and struck out 44 batters. He became a trusted late inning reliever, showed the ability to work multiple innings, and struck out multiple batters in 16 of his appearances.
It has been quite the journey for Shears, but he will now get an opportunity to pitch in the Brewers minor league organization.
