Former Packers quarterback Kurt Benkert signed with the San Francisco 49ers recently. However, what was lost in all the NFL news was that the team had released him last week. Today, the 49ers re-signed him to their practice squad. Additionally, they signed former Packers cornerback Ka’dar Hollman to their practice squad as well. The 49ers announced the signings on Twitter:
The #49ers have signed QB Kurt Benkert and CB Ka’dar Hollman to the team’s practice squad. In order to make room on the practice squad, the team has released LB Buddy Johnson and K Sam Sloman.

Ka’dar Hollman with the Packers
The Green Bay Packers selected Ka’dar Hollman in the sixth round (185th overall pick) in the 2019 NFL Draft. Hollman only appeared in four games with the Packers as a rookie. He totaled just four defensive snaps and 33 special teams snaps in that time frame. Hollman did not record any statistics in those games.
The 2020 season saw Hollman get a slightly bigger role on the team. He appeared in 14 games that season and played 165 special teams snaps (44% of the team’s snaps). Hollman also started one game for the Packers that year, playing 108 defensive snaps on the season.
After the season, the Packers traded Hollman to the Houston Texans for a seventh round pick (which they used to draft Tariq Carpenter this past offseason). The Texans waived him a little more than a week later. Since then, Hollman has spent time on the practice squads of the New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, and Atlanta Falcons. It was the Falcons with whom Hollman has been for most of this current season. They signed him on August 31 and released him on October 11.
