The Green Bay Packers made one of the biggest wide receiver free agent signings of recent memory. After Davante Adams was traded to Las Vegas and Marquez Valdes-Scantling signed with Kansas City, the team found itself lacking at the wide receiver position. Green Bay took a step to help replace those two weapons by signing Sammy Watkins to a one-year deal in April. Watkins has been open about what he came to Green Bay for. Revitalizing his career is at the forefront of his mind. However, he was on top of the world just a few years ago. He was with the Kansas City Chiefs when they won the Super Bowl in 2019-20. Watkins played a total of three seasons with Patrick Mahomes. That will clearly beg the question, now that he has practiced with Aaron Rodgers, who does he prefer? He was asked that question yesterday.
Sammy Watkins’ Response To The Rodgers-Mahomes Question:
The Question: “The people want to know, Mahomes or Rodgers? The Response by Sammy Watkins:
I’ve been with both of them. I think Pat is unbelievably good, but A-Rod is on a whole different level.

While they are at two different spots in their career, the respect between them and from receivers like Sammy Watkins is widely known. Patrick Mahomes has already won a Super Bowl and Super Bowl MVP. He’s 26 years old. Aaron Rodgers has done the same (along with four NFL MVP Awards), meanwhile, he’s 38 and seems to be contemplating retirement. Either way, they’re both on a Hall of Fame trajectory.

Going forward the Packers will certainly have tough decisions at the wide receiver position. Matt LaFleur has never taken more than six wide receivers on the 53-man roster in his three seasons leading the Packers. Lazard, Watkins, Rodgers, and Cobb seem to be locks. Doubs, too, as a fourth-round pick, will make the roster. As a second-round pick, Watson will consequently make the roster when/if he gets healthy. That is a total of six wide receivers. That leaves out Toure, a seventh-round pick, Winfree and Davis (who saw snaps in the regular season last year), and three roster hopefuls battling for a spot that may not exist.
