Chris McIntosh, Wisconsin’s deputy athletic director, will replace Barry Alvarez as UW’s athletic director, according to Nick Van Wagenen of Milwaukee’s WTMJ.

Hearing from sources that the @UWBadgers will name Chris McIntosh as their next athletic director replacing the retiring Barry Alvarez

McIntosh, a native of Pewaukee, has been in his current role since July of 2017. He has been with the Wisconsin athletic department since December of 2014. McIntosh played offensive tackle for the Badgers from 1996-1999. He was a consensus first-team All-American his senior season. In addition, he was a captain for UW’s back-to-back Big Ten and Rose Bowl champion teams in 1998 and 1999. McIntosh was drafted in the first-round of the 2000 draft by the Seattle Seahawks. He was inducted into Wisconsin’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014.

When Barry Alvarez announced his retirement, sources said McIntosh was Alvarez’s preferred pick to replace him. However, UW Chancellor Rebecca Blank announced the university would conduct a national search to fill the vacant position. The UW Board of Regents is expected to discuss the athletic director position Wednesday during a closed door session. Wisconsin Sports Heroics will continue to keep you up to date on the latest regarding this situation.
