The Milwaukee Brewers dropped their first game against Pittsburgh this season 8-7 on Thursday night. It obviously left a bad taste in their mouths as they came out of the gate swinging in game two of the four-game set in Pittsburgh. Corbin Burnes earned his seventh win of the season despite some command issues. Trevor Kelley allowed a run in two innings of relief and threw 52 pitches. Best of all, at least from a pitching perspective, infielder Mike Brosseau pitched a perfect ninth inning to finish the game.

Rowdy Tellez is on an incredible extra-base hit streak
The Brewers’ slugging first baseman was not a finalist at first base for the All-Star game, but that did not slow him down. Rowdy Tellez finished the game 2-5 with a home run and five RBI.

The insertion of Caratini at first base was an interesting one. Very soon, Pedro Severino will be eligible to return from suspension. Before testing positive for a banned substance, Severino was having a torrid spring. Under MLB’s collective bargaining agreement, he will not be eligible to play in the postseason. Perhaps the Brewers are trying work out a way they can keep both Caratini and Severino on the Big League roster until the end of the season.
Game Notes
- Andrew McCutchen played right field for the Brewers tonight and finished the game 3-6 with two runs scored; he is now hitting .253/.325/389 on the season.
- Christian Yelich was 1-3 with two walks and two runs scored for the Brewers as their leadoff hitter.
- In addition to his scoreless ninth inning, Mike Brosseau was 1-2 with three RBI.
- Jonathan Davis returned to the Brewers lineup after missing some time due to soreness following his amazing catch in Tampa Bay; he was 0-3 two walks and two runs.
