The Brewers fell to the Cincinnati Reds after a rough night on the mound by starter Eric Lauer. He earns the loss on the night, while Trevor Bauer walks away the winner.
Big Second Inning Boosts Reds
In the second inning, the Reds would score six runs off of Eric Lauer. Two RBI doubles from Kyle Farmer and Nicholas Castellanos, and a three-run home run from Matt Davidson contributed to Lauer’s early exit from the contest. Lauer would only go three innings, allowing five hits and three walks, while striking out two batters. His efforts came after a dominant relief performance nearly two weeks ago against the Cubs.
Home Runs From Morrison, Yelich Provide Offense For Crew
Despite the loss, the Brewers were able to knock two home runs out-of-the-park. Logan Morrison hit a solo shot in the fourth inning, his first as a Brewer, finishing the night going 1-for-3. Christian Yelich also left the yard, hitting a two-run home run into the Reds’ bullpen in the eighth inning. Neither home run was able to start a game-changing rally, though, as those homers were the only run production of the night.
What’s next?
Game two of the series will begin tonight at 6:10 PM CDT. The pitching matchup stars Anthony DeSclafani for the Reds, and Brett Anderson for the Crew. In his only start this season, DeSclafani went five innings, only allowing three hits, and striking out two. As for Anderson, he will look to build off of a short start against the White Sox this past Monday, in which he went three innings, giving up five hits and two runs.
