Romeo Doubs had a rollercoaster season
Romeo Doubs gave an honest reflection recently after his rookie season ended Sunday night. Doubs had a fast start this season for the Green Bay Packers. Doubs caught touchdown passes against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots. Through early October, Doubs looked like he’d be the best rookie wide receiver for the Packers as he was chasing first-year records.
Unfortunately, Doubs missed several weeks with an ankle injury. He also made some mistakes. Doubs had several crucial drops, one against the Washington Commanders and two drops against the Detroit Lions in Week 18. Doubs finished the season with three touchdowns, 425 yards on 42 receptions on 64 targets. Pro Football Focus credited Doubs with five drops; they gave him a 62.6 overall grade for his rookie season.
Doubs wasn’t happy with how this season went
In a video from the Packers’ locker room, Doubs gave his assessment of how the season went. Doubs said that this season had its challenges and that he had no choice but to work in the offseason to improve for next season.
“This might have been one of the craziest years in life I had to be a part of, but it was a lot of ups and downs this year,” said Doubs. “Unfortunately, it was disappointing, but it was a lot to learn from this year just being a first-year guy, being able to get on the field with 12 [Aaron Rodgers], how fast you have to learn everything. It was tough, but I made sure that throughout those tough times, I was able to embrace those.”

Doubs should improve next season
Doubs showed he has the talent and the intelligence to grasp the offense early in the season. He’s correct that rookies face many challenges when they leap to the NFL, especially in the Packers’ offense. Doubs should come into next season with a better understanding of what he’s expected to do. If he works on catching the ball in the offseason, Doubs could be a major problem for defensive opponents in 2023.
