Despite recent reports suggesting the Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets trade is nearly complete, an NFL insider has disputed these claims. According to Tom Pelissero, the framework of a potential Aaron Rodgers trade has still not been agreed upon, which may also hold up the trade.
Not So Fast: New York Jets Trade Not Yet Agreed Upon
While the New York Jets have been steadily clearing cap space for what seems like Aaron Rodgers’ contract, it appears the deal may still need to be hammered out. Between the movement of money and meetings with Jets’ brass, it seemed as though Rodgers to New York was already a done deal. The only issue before was the financial state of the Jets, but the issues have been resolved since.
Despite a report to the contrary, the #Packers and #Jets have not agreed to the framework of an Aaron Rodgers trade, per sources. Both sides continue to await word from Rodgers on his plans. If he decides he wants to go to New York, then the teams will work to hammer out a deal.

However, as Tom Pelissero has recently reported, the Jets may still need to develop a trade package for the Green Bay Packers. SNY insider Connor Hughes reported a contradictory story this morning which suggested that Aaron Rodgers can become a Jet whenever he chooses to. The only thing holding up the trade was Rodgers making his decision, yet that appears to be the least of the issues currently.
From my understanding on #Jets & Aaron Rodgers: Everything that needs to be done is essentially done in regards to a trade. Sides have worked out what needs to be worked out.
So if Rodgers wants to be a Jet, he will be a Jet.
Broken record, but … just waiting on him to decide

With no deal in place, that changes the trajectory of the trade drastically. Between their abundance of picks and draft assets, the New York Jets have been the favorite to land Aaron Rodgers since the rumors of him being traded began. The Jets certainly can put together a package of first and second round draft picks to land Rodgers. But, the questions of whether or not the deal will be accepted still hangs in the balance.
Will the New York Jets Trade For Aaron Rodgers Fall Through?
While there is no deal agreed to in principle in case Rodgers wants to be traded, it is still possible the framework can be agreed upon quickly. Connor Hughes also mentioned that while no deal is agreed upon, that does not mean it has not been discussed. Hughes states that the sides have “…Worked out what needs to be worked out.” While there is no framework in place or listed publicly, then it should be assumed that the teams have already discussed package options.
Rich Cimini, a New York Jets insider, suggested that the Jets would consider trading a second and third round pick for Rodgers. Cimini states that the Jets first round pick, the 13th overall selection, will likely not be on the table during discussions. The 43rd and 74th overall picks are the ones that have been implicated in a potential trade package the most thus far.
On the other side of the coin, what the Packers are looking for as compensation for Rodgers has been unclear. The Jets insiders have been adamant that the team will not trade away a first round pick for Rodgers due to the cap gymnastics they are enduring to make the trade work. The Jets also have all of their 2024 draft picks as well, which could be involved in the negotiations.

The trade is ultimately up to Aaron Rodgers at this point. Whether or not he becomes a New York Jet will come down to his decision on what team he would like to move forward with. The trade framework not being agreed upon represents a small issue that will be hammered out if Rodgers expresses enough interest in moving.
