Colin Cowherd has been one of Aaron Rodgers’ biggest critics for a long time.
He’s mocked him, called for fans to stop worshipping him, and is quick to bring up concerns even when there isn’t much evidence to support his claims.
So for Mr. Cowherd to make statements in support of Rodgers and the Packers working to appease him, it comes as a shock!
Cowherd Supports Packers Signing Odell Beckham Jr.
On Wednesday’s The Herd with Colin Cowherd, the show’s host laid out 5 reasons the Packers should be serious about signing Odell Beckham Jr.
Here’s the TLDR;
1. It’s a position of need.
“You’re not a Super Bowl team if Romeo Doubs is your number 1. Right now he’s a talented 3, maybe a 2.”
2. Odell Beckham Jr. is a veteran receiver.
“[Aaron]…doesn’t have to teach him to be big in big games.”
3. It’s not a long-term deal.
“You don’t have to get in bed here for like 4 years.”
4. It makes Rodgers happy.
“That matters. Keep your quarterback happy. It’s why Tom left New England. It’s why Russel left Seattle.”
Rodgers has even stated that he wants to play with OBJ.
5. The NFC is wide open.
It’s still early enough in the season to expect OBJ to make a dramatic impact. It took him just two games to contribute to the Los Angeles Ram’s offense, and he had a stellar first half in the Super Bowl before an injury.
Our Plea To Sign OBJ
We can’t help but highlight Cowherd’s thinking here.
Rodgers will retire in the coming years. It’s logical to assume lightning WILL NOT strike three times in a row for the Packer’s starting quarterback position.
Taking a swing at signing OBJ to a two-year contract gives the Packers a shot at capitalizing on having one of the greatest quarterbacks in the game.
Green Bay has traditionally been conservative. Free agency was a taboo word under Ted Thomson’s leadership, and although Brian Gutekunst doesn’t seem so allergic to Free agency, the Packer’s front office continues to show timidity.
I’m with Cowherd on this one…“Growth and greatness come from getting uncomfortable.”
