Whenever anyone talks about the Green Bay Packers this year, there is always one thing everyone mentions. That is, how is Rodger going to do now that Devante Adams has gone to the Raiders? In a previous post, I gave a quick mention that receiver isn’t something fans should be worried about. This is going to add on to that, because I feel everyone is sleeping on Robert Tonyan. In case you don’t already know, Robert Tonyan is the tight end for the Green Bay Packers and I think he is in store for a great year.
His 2020 season

Robert Tonyan was injured last year in week 8. I’ll talk more about that later on. First, let’s look at his stats from the year before, 2020. In 2020, Robert Tonyan record 52 receptions, 586 yards, and 11 TDs. That is a great stat line for a tight end. Both his receptions and receiving yards ranked 13th among all tight ends. The amazing part, however, is his touchdowns. His 11 TDs were tied for 5th among all receivers and were tied for 1st among tight ends. Anyone want to take a guess which tight end he was tied with? That’s right, Travis Kelce from the Kansas City Chiefs. That is great company to be apart of. I think Robert Tonyan is capable of having a season just as good, if not better, than that year.
Recovering from injury

Now as I mentioned, Robert Tonyan did have an ACL tear last year halfway through the season. An injury like that does take time to heal from. The worst part is, you never know how the player will be after recovery. We’ve seen players like Adrian Peterson come back after an ACL and surpass 2,000 yards rushing. We’ve also seen plays like Saquon Barkley who has yet to fully recover from his ACL tear, though he does have many other injuries. I would be lying if the injury didn’t still worry me, but I still trust Tonyan to come back as strong as ever. He’s already been activated off the PUP list according to Rob Demovsky’s, ESPN writer, article on his injury update.
Robert Tonyan new favorite target in redzone?

Every Packers game whenever they were in the redzone, you already know who Rodgers was going to throw to. Now that Adams is gone, Rodgers has to find someone else to go to when the pressure is on him. Sure he could go through his progressions and find the open receiver, but it doesn’t alway turn out like that. A defender is going to get through and attack Rodgers, and he’s going to have to just trust someone to toss it up to. That someone could be Robert Tonyan. He’s got the size standing at 6’5 and the athletic ability. Don’t be surprised if Tonyan has a monster year in 2022.
