The transfer portal window is closing soon in college basketball. While Wisconsin added a solid wing in A.J. Storr, one thing has remained obvious. They have not yet landed a backup center from the portal. It’s a position they need bad. They need a player who can take on the Chris Vogt role from the 2021-2022 season and provide some relief minutes for current starting center Steven Crowl.
A trusted source to @Badger_Notes has shared that Greg Gard and the Wisconsin basketball coaching staff have reached out to Utah State Center Trevin Dorius.
The 7-foot-1 center averaged 5.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks in 14 minutes per game for the Aggies.#Badgers

According to Dillon Graff of Badger Notes, Wisconsin has recently been in contact with a center. Graff notes the Badgers have been in contact with Utah State transfer Trevin Dorius. Doris is a 7’1 and 240 pounds who recently entered the portal after four season with the Aggies. Dorius averaged 5.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and shoe almost 57% from the field in 14 minutes a game. Graff also mentions Dorius has one year of eligibility remaining.
Why This Makes Sense For The Badgers

It’s hard to grab a player out of the transfer portal and ask them to be a backup. Chris Vogt did it in his last year of eligibility and provided Wisconsin exactly what they needed and asked for.
Like Vogt, Dorius would be coming from a non power 5 school and could be looking to end his career with a high end program. If the Badgers were to land Dorius, he would immediately provide similar minutes to what he was playing at Utah State. With 39 starts and 115 career games already under his belt, Dorius would seem like a perfect fit for the Badgers. Size and experience are two valuable pieces in a big man and Dorius would provide both to a position group that needs it.
Hopefully there is more to come on this, but it’s encouraging to see the Badgers continue to find the missing piece to a big gap on this current roster.
