The Wisconsin Badgers will have some critical decisions to make this offseason regarding the quarterback position. Will they find another player in the transfer portal or stick with the quarterbacks on the roster, along with the incoming freshman?
Tyler Van Dyke will be transferring from the Wisconsin Badgers program. Van Dyke transferred from the Miami Hurricanes a season ago. If the Badgers find another quarterback in the transfer portal one name to watch for potentially is Texas A&M Aggies quarterback Conner Weigman.
Wisconsin Badgers Linked To Texas A&M Aggies Quarterback Conner Weigman Through the Transfer Portal
Once again, the Badgers will likely look at the transfer portal to land a quarterback. They have done for the last two years under head coach Luke Fickell, but it has not gone as planned. Before Tyler Van Dyke, they used the portal to land Tanner Mordecai.
This time, badgerofhonor.com writer Braulio Perez reports that one of the quarterbacks who the Badgers could very well land in the transfer portal is Texas A&M Aggies quarterback Conner Weigman. Perez said:
“This is an obvious choice, as Conner Weigman is ranked the top transfer quarterback by 247Sports. Weigman is expected to have a boatload of offers this cycle, but Wisconsin can surely sell him on the fact that he can start right away for one of the most storied programs in the Big Ten.
Shortly after his transfer decision was announced, Weigman was linked with multiple programs, including Wisconsin. Fickell needs to get on the horn with him as soon as possible. Maybe an official visit would get put on the books soon?”
As a sophomore, he played in only five games last season with the Aggies. Weigman completed 56.1% of his passes for 819 yards, three touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also rushed for 101 yards on 28 carries and zero touchdowns, averaging 3.8 yards per carry.
The stats don’t look ideal for him, but he has potential. Conner Weigman is 6’3″ and weighs 220 lbs. Anything would be better than Braedyn Locke.
Carter Smith Could Start As a Freshman
If the Badgers do not bring anyone in from the transfer portal, there is a chance that in 2025, the Wisconsin Badgers could start Carter Smith as a freshman. He is a four-star recruit who de-committed from the Michigan Wolverines earlier this year.
Smith would provide a new sense of hope to the Badgers program which went 5-7 a year ago. A lot of the issues of this team was quarterback play.
