Milwaukee Bucks guard Pat Connaughton has been mentioned in NBA trade rumors over the last several months. This year, he has come off the bench for Milwaukee like he has done in the past. This season, Connaughton has played in 15 games and is averaging 4.9 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 1.7 APG, 0.3 BPG, and 0.2 SPG.
He is also shooting 37.1 percent from the field and 29.5 percent from three-point land. Connaughton is also shooting 75.0 percent from the free-throw line. There is a good chance that he could be traded at the NBA trade deadline this season.
Behindthebuckpass.com Suggests That the Milwaukee Bucks Could Trade Pat Connaughton To the Charlotte Hornets For Cody Martin At the NBA Trade Deadline
Behindthebuckpass.com writer William Moxon created some potential mock trades for the Milwaukee Bucks before the 2025 NBA trade deadline. He created three trades and one of the trades Moxon created was the Charlotte Hornets acquiring Pat Connaughton and a 2031 second-round pick for Cody Martin.
William Moxon said about this potential trade between the Hornets and the Milwaukee Bucks:
“This may be a bit tougher to get accepted. Cody Martin is having a solid season for the Charlotte Hornets and is only making $8.1 million and is under contract for the 2025-26 season as well.
Pat Connaughton is making $9.4 million but is now out of the Milwaukee Bucks rotation completely. Adding someone who has played as well as Martin would be a huge boost, and many contenders are likely to be looking at making a move for the wing.
Martin is averaging 8.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and a steal on splits of .441/.337/.656 on a Charlotte team struggling near the bottom end of the Eastern Conference. They started the season well behind the lead of LaMelo Ball, but since then, have struggled to stay consistent. They have a 7-17 record, so cashing in on their assets to continue building their young core could be the way to go.
There are two possible concerns with making this deal. The first is that the Hornets may be tempted by other offers that involve more or better draft picks and younger players that can be of use to them in building for the future. Secondly, the Bucks wing position is looking quite solid now with the rise of AJ Green and Andre Jackson Jr., with Gary Trent Jr. also finding his flow as well. Bringing in Martin could create a log jam and force players to lose minutes, but if the Bucks could make a move for him, it feels like he could be a real asset.”
Cody Martin on the Milwaukee Bucks would be a much better bench piece than Pat Connaughton would be at the moment. Martin is a better defender as he is averaging 0.8 BPG and 1.2 SPG this season. Cody Martin is 29 years old and Connaughton is 31 years old.
Contract Situation For Connaughton
Next year, Connaughton will have a player option. If he accepts it, then he won’t be a free agent until after the 2025-2026 season. If he were to decline it, then he would be a free agent after the season.
For the long haul, Cody Martin is a better fit on the Bucks roster than Pat Connaughton is. This is a trade that general manager Jon Horst could make at the NBA trade deadline, but it remains to be seen if Connaughton will be dealt or not.
