One of the weaknesses of the Green Bay Packers this season has been getting a consistent pass rush. The defense has shown signs of improvement this season in the run game, but it still will need work as the Packers get late into the NFL regular season.
One player who will be a free agent after this season is New York Giants EDGE rusher Azeez Ojulari. Ojulari was placed on injured reserve after the November 18 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a toe injury.
Bleacher Report Writer Matt Holder Thinks That the Green Bay Packers Could Sign New York Giants EDGE Rusher Azeez Ojulari This Offseason
Matt Holder of Bleacher Report mentioned that one of the things that the Packers need to do this offseason is to sign Giants EDGE rusher Azeez Ojulari. Holder said:
“Outside of Rashan Gary, Green Bay hasn’t gotten much production from its edge rushers this season. It was somewhat surprising to see the front office not add another pass-rusher to complement Gary at the trade deadline, opting to trade Preston Smith instead. So, the organization should look into signing Ojulari in the offseason as he’s been productive in 2024 with six sacks in 11 games while only making five starts on New York’s deep defensive line. Plus, the 24-year-old who turns 25 in June is a young, high-level athlete, which GM Brian Gutekunst covets at the position.”
The Giants tried to trade him during the trade deadline, but they decided to keep him. It turned out to be a mistake for general manager Joe Schoen. Schoen is most likely to get fired as New York’s general manager at the end of the 2024 NFL season.
Season Stats
During the season with the New York Giants, he recorded 28 tackles and six sacks. Ojulari stepped up when Kayvon Thibodeaux was injured earlier in the season for New York.
With Azeez Ojulari being only 24 years old, there is a chance that he could thrive with the Green Bay Packers or a different team other than the Giants. Ojulari was a second-round selection (50th overall pick) in the 2021 NFL Draft from Georgia. Xavier McKinney left the Giants last offseason in free agency and thrived with Green Bay this season. The same goes with running back Saquon Barkley leaving New York for the Philadelphia Eagles.
