The Green Bay Packers during the 2023 offseason traded quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets. Other former Packers players joined Rodgers with the Jets. Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard also joined Aaron Rodgers with the Jets in 2023.
The Packers and the Jets are both 0-1 to start the 2024 season. They will not play each other this season, but there is a chance that Green Bay could look at some New York free agents after the end of the 2024 season.
Bleacher Report Believes The Green Bay Packers Could Sign New York Jets Cornerback DJ Reed in 2025 NFL Free Agency
DJ Reed is the second cornerback on the New York Jets roster behind Sauce Gardner. Reed is 27 years old and they could very well not re-sign him at the end of the 2024 season. In the first game of the season against the San Francisco 49ers, DJ Reed recorded nine tackles and had one pass deflection.
The Bleacher Report Scouting Department thinks that the Green Bay Packers could very well sign the Jets star cornerback in the offseason. They said:
“With Eric Stokes’ contract about to expire, cornerback currently projects to be one of the biggest offseason needs in Green Bay. Meanwhile, Reed could be in his last year with the Jets seeing as his deal is up at the end of the season and New York has to worry about paying Sauce Gardner. Also, the soon-to-be 28-year-old has thrived in the CB2 role for the Jets … That’d likely be a similar situation to what he’d be walking into with the Packers alongside Jaire Alexander.”
There is no doubt that the Green Bay Packers will need to address the cornerback position in the offseason. Green Bay failed to do that last offseason.
Super Bowl Contention
People may want to believe that the Jets will be in Super Bowl contention, but they don’t feel like a contender. The Packers are closer to contending than New York is. This offseason, it is very possible that the New York Jets make massive changes this offseason. It is possible that they fire head coach Robert Saleh and also don’t bring back Joe Douglas as general manager.
Head coach Matt LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst are not going anywhere for the Green Bay Packers. DJ Reed will no doubt have a market if he is not re-signed by the New York Jets this offseason. He would be an upgrade over Erik Stokes.
