The Green Bay Packers are going to be in the wide receiver market seemingly all off-season long. This bodes well for trade proposals from all over the league. This one may not be DK Metcalf or Deebo Samuel, but it would bring in a veteran deep threat for Aaron Rodgers.
Green Bay Packers trade for wide receiver Tyler Lockett
Gary Davenport, an NFL analyst at Bleacher report proposed a trade that would send the 29 year old veteran to Green Bay. Gary went on to say:
“The Packers’ Super Bowl window isn’t getting any wider, and the notion that the Pack can replace Davante Adams’ production with a bunch of rookies is folly. Aaron Rodgers isn’t the most trusting of quarterbacks. He wants a target with experience. One who will be where he’s supposed to be when he’s supposed to be there.”
“Tyler Lockett is just that kind of receiver—a seven-year veteran who has topped 1,000 receiving yards each of the past three years. Adding him wouldn’t excite the fanbase as much as Metcalf, but he could possibly be had without sacrificing Green Bay first-round picks—especially if general manager Brian Gutekunst throws in a first-round quarterback prospect.”
Proposed Trade:
Seattle receives:
- QB Jordan Love
- Pick #53 in 2022 NFL Draft (second round)
- Pick #171 in 2022 NFL Draft (fifth round)
Packers receive:
- WR Tyler Lockett
- Pick #152 in 2022 NFL Draft (fifth round)
If Green Bay thinks that Lockett can still produce for another 2-4 years, i’d say this trade is realistic. However Jordan Love could become a valuable bargaining piece if he is able to put together some good tape this year. Whether it be in the pre-season or garbage time in the regular season, Jordan Love tape continues to be a hot commodity. There are a number of teams who are looking for their next quarterback. If one of those teams decides to pursue Love, they could offer a lot more than Tyler Lockett (value wise).
However if the Packers aren’t sold on Love, cutting you losses while you can still get something for him is smart. Lockett is so scrub of a wide receiver. He was one of the best down field threats with Russell Wilson. There is no doubt he still has that ability, however the age remains the biggest factor.
