A Twitter Space discussion leading up to the 2022 draft, Yahoo Sports senior NFL reporter Charles Robinson stated that the Panthers would probably be open to the prospect of shipping out the soon-to-be 29-year-old wideout.
“I think if someone made an offer for Robby Anderson, Carolina would deal him,” Robinson said.
Anderson is coming off the worst campaign of his professional career. 2021 saw the talented pass catcher post lows in receiving yards (519), yards per reception (9.8) and catch rate (48.2 percent). This would likely make his asking price in a trade very low.
It is unlikely that Carolina would give up Anderson for future draft picks as they want to surround QBs Sam Darnold and Matt Corral with as much weapons as possible. A position that they are significantly lacking at is tight end. Currently Tommy Tremble is listed as the Panthers #1 tight end on their depth chart. Tremble appeared in 16 games last year, starting 11 of them. He ended the season with 20 receptions for 180 yards and one touchdown.
Proposed Trade:
Packers receive:
- WR Robby Anderson
Panthers receive:
- TE Josiah Deguara
- 2023 conditional 6th-7th round pick
Even with his subpar 2021 season, Robby Anderson has averaged nearly 800 receiving yards, 67 receptions, and 4 touchdowns per season over the last three years. That kind of productivity would be valuable with Rodgers and company.
Josiah Deguara only started 2 games in 2021, yet still accumulated nearly double what Tommy Tremble did. Deguara finished the 2021 season with 25 receptions, 245 yards, and 2 touchdowns. All while being the 3rd string tight end. Given the opportunity, Deguara could prove himself as a reliable asset in a passing game.
This trade would not only give the Packers another veteran wide receiver to help the younger generation in the locker room, but it would improve the Panthers’ worst offensive position. The Panthers also have two young wide receivers in Terrace Marshall and Rashard Higgins who could compete for the role that Anderson would have had.
