A possible trade could send a Brewers pitcher to the Dodgers
The Milwaukee Brewers have already made some moves with pitchers. Last week the Brewers said goodbye to their longtime left-handed pitcher, Brent Suter. Earlier in the month, the Brewers picked up a right-handed pitcher Tyson Miller off of waivers. Could the Brewers make an even bigger change to the pitching staff this off-season?
A fan asked Jim Bowden of The Athletic about a potential trade involving Brewers pitcher Corbin Burnes. The trade would send Burnes to the Los Angeles Dodgers. In return, the Brewers would get three prospects, Diego Cartaya, Michael Busch, and Ryan Pepiot. Bowden wrote back in his mailbag what he thought of the potential trade. Bowden called the move a “blockbuster” trade:
Whoa, that would be a blockbuster. Burnes will be a free agent after the 2024 season, but I think they keep him until next year’s trade deadline at least. If they did trade the two-time All-Star, that prospect package would probably be enough to land him at that time, but it’s also a huge prospect price to pay. Cartaya is one of the best catching prospects in the sport and a special future impact bat. Busch, an infielder/outfielder, profiles as an everyday player, too. Pepiot is a starter with back-of-the-rotation potential. If I’m the Dodgers, I’d prefer to make trade proposals that do not include Cartaya.
This would be a good deal for the Brewers
Burnes has been a steal for the Brewers. The 2021 National League Cy Young Award winner would be hard to replace on the mound. Burnes has a 35-19 record with an average of 3.21 ERA over his five seasons in Milwaukee. He had four seasons where he had an average ERA below three.
However, getting three prospects in return is something the Brewers would consider. Diego Cartaya is considered a top prospect at catcher. The Brewers are in the market for a catcher for next season. If the other two players can find a role on the Brewers, that trade would be worth it for a pitcher that might not be with the team in a few years.

No way do the Brewers accept that because they’re weak in the rotation. Busch might start for them but Pepiot can’t find the plate and Cartaya is not ready. Majority of prospects never make it so if they DO make this trade I’ll be surprised
If this trade makes no sense the Brewers will do it! I’m convinced this team’s front office and their NICKEL & DIME OWNER, they DONT CARE! Winning to them is meaningless. Trade the best closer in Baseball and get nothing, so why not trade the best starter in Baseball and get nothing again?!?! This team has become a complete JOKE! That’s sad, since I’ve been supporting them since 1975! 😢 Now what a joke! Pathetically inept stooges.
