In a recent article we discussed making the Bucks better through trades at the PG position. Now we are once again putting on our GM hats to take a look at the shooting guard position. Could the Bucks improve the roster with likes of Devin Booker, Buddy Hield, and others?
Trade #1: Devin Booker (Phoenix)
Devin Booker, the Suns young superstar has show great scoring ability and continued development throughout his career. But the Suns missing out on the playoffs again in 2020 it might be time for the Suns to trade Booker.
Trade
Bucks Receive Booker
Suns Receive Bledsoe, Ilyasova, unprotected first round draft pick
The Suns would get Bledsoe who would help that team improve defensively and bring leadership to the young team. It also allows Bledsoe to be the rim attacker he is exceptionally good at. They would also get some leadership in Ilyasova if they don’t wave him. However, the big get here is a first round pick that would allow the Suns to try to continue to build their team around Ayton and the rest of that young talented roster.
The Bucks would get an immediate second scoring option and go-to scorer late in the game who is a good shooter and can create for himself. Also in this, a Giannis/Booker/Middleton Big Three might be as good as any since Wade/Lebron/Bosh or Durant/Thompson/Curry trios. The Suns may ask for Middleton instead back and the Bucks should do that deal as well. After all, a Booker/Giannis combo might be the best combo the Bucks have ever had.
Trade #2: Victor Oladipo (Indiana)
Oladipo looked like a top-10 player in the league before a nasty injury sidelined him. This made him a prime buy low candidate after he didn’t look like himself in limited action this past season. Indiana doesn’t look sure they want to resign Oladipo, so a trade now might be the best move.
Trade
Bucks Receive Oladipo
Pacers Receive Bledsoe and Wilson
Pacers get to pair Bledsoe with Brogdon who have experience playing together in Milwaukee and are both a good defenders at the guard position. They also add some depth to the front court in Wilson, who has been buried on the depth chart in Milwaukee.
The Bucks would get at his best a top-15 player in the league to pair with Giannis and Middleton who can create his own shot. The issue here is if Oladipo is healthy and if he will ever get back to his former self. If he does it’s a great trade to make, however if he doesn’t the Bucks don’t have to resign him. This would open up cap space to try to keep Giannis in Milwaukee come next summer.
Trade #3: CJ McCullom (Portland)
McCullom who is a career 40% three-point shooter and has the ability to create his own shot is an All-Star. Right now he seems stuck on a perennial eight-seed team in the Western Conference
Trade
Bucks Receive McCullom
Trailblazers Receive Middleton
This trade would give Portland their second star who could guard guys like Paul George, Kwahi Leonard, and LeBron for stretches. He could also a complimentary offensive weapon next to Lillard.
The Bucks would lose Middleton’s defense, but would gain McCullom who is more athletic and can create his own shot. He would also become the best shooting guard the Bucks have had since Ray Allen in 2001. Any trade that could get McCulllom to Milwaukee without out giving up Giannis or Middleton should be an obvious choice.
Trade #4: Klay Thompson (Golden State)
In the last article we took a look at how we could get Steph Curry, but this time we focus on the other Splash Brother in Thompson. Like any of the others on this list so far, he is an All-Star. But unlike the rest, he would bring championship experience to any team.
Trade
Bucks Receive Thompson
Warriors Receive Middleton and Wilson
The Warriors get a guy who can help them now in Middleton who is a 90/50/40 guy and would pair well with Curry in Golden State.
Thompson and is lethal scoring ability would be a welcome site for the Bucks who struggled to create their own shots and hasn’t had a sharpshooter like Thompson since Allen in 2001. Thompson also would seemingly fit perfectly with Giannis to create one of the more feared combos in the league.
Trade #5: Buddy Hield (Sacramento)
Buddy Hield is known for his tremendous range from three and quick release. He has improved on defense since he joined the NBA out of Oklahoma. However, with the Kings struggles to break out of mediocrity in the loaded Western Conference it’s time to move the 27-year old sharp shooter.
Trade
Bucks Receive Hield
Kings Receive Bledsoe and Wilson
The trade would allow the Kings to move Hield’s contract and move on from Fox if they don’t feel like he is the answer either. While Bledsoe’s defense and leadership would be welcomed to the young Kings team.
The Bucks would get one of the ultimate floor spacer in the NBA and a guy who might be more motivated playing for a contending team. At over 40% from three and with Giannis and Middleton on the court Hield would get a lot of open looks from downtown.
