12 Quentin Johnston 2023 NFL Draft Profile

Per NFL Draft Buzz, Smith has the following strengths and weaknesses:

Strengths

• Precise route runner. Elite at creating separation
• An excellent downfield threat. Can accelerate to top speed quickly
• Gets upfield quickly after the catch
• Reliable hands and very good focus

Weaknesses

• Not a dominant blocker
• Ran limited route tree at TCU
• Needs to get better at finding the holes in zone coverage

Johnston has everything you want in a wide receiver prospect. He is tall, fast, and has good hands. He is also playing in high-leverage games as TCU made the College Football Playoff this year. His ability to take the top off of a defense will be exactly what teams will be looking for. The weaknesses he has are extremely fixable and with the proper coaching should not be an issue at the next level.

Quentin Johnston in Mock Drafts

Quentin Johnston is projected to be a first-round draft pick. Many consider him the top wide receiver in the draft and if not, he is at least in the top 3. According to NFL Mock Draft Database, Johnston is going in the first round in 80% of mock drafts. I see no scenario where Johnston slips to the second round given the need for wide receiver talent across the league. Below is a list of different mock drafts and where they have Johnston being taken in the NFL Draft.

• CBS Sports – No. 12 overall: Texans
• NFL Mocks – No. 9 overall: Bears (via a draft day trade)
• Draft Countdown – No. 9 overall: Bears (via a draft day trade)
• Tankathon – No. 9 Panthers

Would Quentin Johnston Fit on the Packers?

In a word, yes. The biggest question is whether Johnston will be on the draft board when the Packers pick in the first round. Even if the Packers miss the playoffs, they will have a pick somewhere between 15-20. In all of the mock drafts, Quentin Johnston will be off the board by that time. However, for the sake of this article, let’s assume that Johnston is still on the board and the Packers are on the clock. Do the Packers take him?

The development of Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs could lead GM Brian Gutekunst to look to fill holes elsewhere on the roster. However, the Packers will need another wide receiver, and having two receivers that can take the top off of a defense is never a bad thing. (Look at Miami this year with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle) If Johnston falls, I would expect Gutekunst to take him. He is too good of a talent to pass up.
