Max Melton Scouting Report
Per NFL Draft Buzz, Melton has the following strengths and weaknesses:
Strengths
- He’s physical at the line of scrimmage, showing unexpected power in his hands
- With his length, athleticism, and natural ball skills, Melton will be highly valued by press cover teams and could earn a top-100 pick
- Aware in the red zone, stays on the back line to take away fade throws. Capable of making quarterbacks pay for late throws
- Shows good instincts when facing the action in zone coverage, and he has solid ball skills
Weaknesses
- Holds the ball loosely. Inconsistent in run support. Average tackler
- Susceptible to the big plays as a gambler at the catch point and as a catch-and-run victim. He’s also too reluctant to come up and make hits in run support, often focusing on the strip more than the tackle

Max Melton in Mock Drafts
According to NFL Mock Draft Database, Melton is a projected third-round pick. Rutgers usually doesn’t get a lot of recognition but has quietly put out some good prospects to the NFL. Melton may get lost in a sea of cornerback prospects but he is a high-upside pick for any team. Below is a list of mock drafts and where they have Melton being drafted.
- Walter Football – No. 19 overall: Bucs
- Gridiron Heroics – No. 23 overall Giants
Would Max Melton Fit on the Packers?
I don’t love the Melton fit on the Packers. The Packers already get inconsistent run support from their secondary and adding another player who is not great in that area wouldn’t be good. I like Melton overall just not as a fit for this Packers team.
Check Out Another Prospect That Could Fit For the Packers
Cornerback is also not an area of need for the Packers. Jaire Alexander, Eric Stokes, and Rasul Douglas are all on the roster. I’m all for drafting high level talent regardless of position but I think GM Brian Gutekunst can get talent while also filling a need.
