Jonathan Mingo Scouting Report
Per NFL Draft Buzz, Mingo has the following strengths and weaknesses:
Strengths
- He’s broad-shouldered, long-limbed and a smooth athlete who showed the ability to make plays downfield
- Mingo transitions quickly from receiver to runner, and he has enough speed to threaten the seam
- He’s equally dangerous in catch-and-run situations as he is taking the top off a defense
- Is a much better deep threat than his timed forty would suggest, and will tend to get faster the deeper he gets
- Is an impressive blocker – can pancake DBs on running plays
Weaknesses
- He’ll have to develop a better feel for sitting down against zone coverage
- Has had issues with consistency and has had a number of focus drops
- Broke his foot in practice preparing for Alabama in 2021. Has overall struggled to stay healthy
- As a route runner, he needs to improve – his technique is only average

Jonathan Mingo in Mock Drafts
According to NFL Mock Draft Database, Mingo is a projected fifth-round pick. Any player who has an injury history is going to be a risky draft pick. Mingo has lots of good qualities but you can be the best player in the world and do nothing if you are injured on the sidelines. Still, there is enough upside that he could become a late-round steal. Below is a list of mock drafts and where they have Mingo being taken.
- Pro Football Network – Fourth round: Chargers
- With The First Pick – Fifth round: Saints
Would Jonathan Mingo Fit on the Packers?
Let’s take the injury part out of the equation for a second. I love Mingo as an option for the Packers. The run blocking stands out to me as a great fit for the Packers offense. He seems like a solid receiver who could easily start week 1 for the Packers. Maybe he wouldn’t be an every-down wide receiver, but if he can run block, he would easily find himself a role.
Check Out Another Prospect That Could Fit For the Packers
The injury question is the real wild card. With the number of wide receivers available, the risk here is really high. If the injuries are behind him, you’ve got a steal. If they aren’t, it’s a pick gone. It is very little in between. If GM Brian Gutekunst thinks that the upside is huge, then he may take him. Otherwise, I think he stays away and looks elsewhere.
