Dawand Jones: Offensive Tackle, Ohio State: NFL Draft Scouting Profile and Projected Draft Position
Dawand Jones Ohio State Stats
Jones has played four seasons at Ohio State. In his time there, he has only given up a total of four sacks. This is at both the left tackle and right tackle positions.
Dawand Jones Scouting Report
Per NFL Draft Buzz, Jones has the following strengths and weaknesses:
Strengths
- Displays good awareness when it comes to reading moving bodies, effectively reacting, and adjusting. Jones also shows a good feel for combo blocks
- Effective in space and usually drops his hips to get leverage and sustain against shorter defenders
- Jones does a nice job working with teammates to build the pocket, anchoring against bull rushers, and displaying good awareness against stunts and twists
- He has the measurables to stick at tackle, and Jones plays with a good, wide base in pass protection, allowing him to hold up against the bull rush
Weaknesses
- Jones seems too focused on winning with his hands, too often stopping his feet
- Protecting on an island will be a challenge against rushers who can dip and bend around the edge. He’ll also struggle against good countermoves; Jones often gets into position on his initial set before failing to sufficiently adjust
- Tends to slip off blocks when going against bigger linemen, and he too often finishes plays on the ground

Dawand Jones in Mock Drafts
According to NFL Mock Draft Database, Jones is a projected second-round pick. However, because of the importance of the tackle position, some mock drafts have him sneaking into the late first round. Jones’ size also makes him a tantalizing prospect for many teams. Below is a list of mock drafts and where they have Jones being taken.
- NBC Sports Chicago – No. 21 overall: Jaguars
- Sports Illustrated – No. 25 overall: Chargers
Would Dawand Jones Fit on the Packers?
Any offensive lineman is a great fit for the Packers. They have a history of developing linemen into elite players regardless of where they are picked. Jones’ size, strength, and versatility make him a prospect that GM Brian Gutekunst could draft. The question becomes whether he fits the profile Gutekunst is looking for.
Check Out Another Prospect That Could Fit For the Packers
The Packers already have Caleb Jones, another giant lineman. Are the Packers looking to build towering tackles that are physically imposing? Or are they looking for a different type of player? These are the questions that I have surrounding Jones but if he is picked, it definitely is a good fit for the Packers.
