Colby Wooden Scouting Report
Per NFL Draft Buzz, Wooden has the following strengths and weaknesses:
Strengths
- As a pass rusher, Wooden shows quickness off the line and has the fluid athleticism and flexibility to bend the edge
- Combines excellent power with initial quickness, but one of his best attributes are his violent hands, which he uses with impressive precision
- A technician with a high motor, he has a variety of moves and displays exceptionally good hand use. Wooden shows a strong finishing burst and has the power to hold at the point of attack as a run defender
Weaknesses
- Lacks the ability to be a true elite edge burner. While Wooden was able to physically overpower opponents at the college, he will have to develop a wider repertoire of moves in the pros
- He’s often slow to react and locate the ball against the run

Colby Wooden in Mock Drafts
According to NFL Mock Draft Database, Wooden is a projected fourth-round pick. The edge position is very deep meaning that there will be talent in the later rounds. If teams are not able to grab a top prospect, they may end up waiting until the mid-rounds. Below is a list of mock drafts and where they have Wooden being taken.
- Pro Football Network – Fifth round: Bears
- Turf Show Times – Sixth round: Rams
Would Colby Wooden Fit on the Packers?
Wooden could be a great fit for the Packers. GM Brian Gutekunst had success with fifth round pick Kingsley Enagbare last year and could look to score a mid to late round edge once again. If Gutekunst cannot get a top edge prospect, I expect him to wait and add someone like Wooden in the fourth or fifth round.

His weaknesses are coachable which is always a plus. Adding new pass rush moves is something that can be learned if a player is properly motivated. Watch for Wooden in day 3.
