Cody Mauch: Offensive Tackle, North Dakota State: NFL Draft Scouting Profile and Projected Draft Position
Cody Mauch North Dakota State Stats
Mauch has played five years at North Dakota State. In that time, he has only given up 2 total sacks playing a combination of left tackle and right tackle.
Cody Mauch Scouting Report
Per NFL Draft Buzz, Mauch has the following strengths and weaknesses:
Strengths
A smooth athlete with terrific mobility and footwork, staying light on his feet. Has the lateral range, natural shuffle movements, and lower body quickness to mirror speed rushers
Effective in space and usually drops his hips to get leverage and sustain against shorter defenders
He’s especially light on his feet considering his size, a fluid mover who has natural balance as Mauch kick-slides and sets
Weaknesses
Sloppy with his hand placement, failing to take full advantage of his natural length and power
Can struggle to stay engaged, especially on the second level. His hand placement can be sloppy, costing him power
According to NFL Mock Draft Database, Mauch is a projected second-round pick. The prospects coming out of North Dakota State have been solid in the NFL over the past couple of years and teams are starting to notice. Some mock drafts have him going in the first round. Below is a list of mock drafts and where they have Mauch being drafted.
Mauch fits the profile of a player that GM Brian Gutekunst likes to draft and I think he would be a great fit. He is a great athlete that can move well in space. His versatility to play either left or right tackle is desirable and the Packers could use another tackle on the roster.
The Packers also scored big with Christian Watson as a North Dakota State prospect and Gutekunst has a history of favoring schools (see the last two years of first round picks). Mauch would be a great second-round pick if Gutekunst decided to draft another position in the first round. For More Great Wisconsin Sports Content
