Peter King is one of the most well-known NFL writers and analysts. He gives a very intelligent and well-thought-out analysis of all 32 teams. Over the weekend, King reveals what he thought would be fair compensation for an Aaron Rodgers trade.
King's suggestion for a Rodgers trade compensation for the #Packers:
2023 2nd-round pick
2025 conditonal pick (1st if Rodgers plays in 2024, 3rd if he doesn't) https://t.co/faWP54RuSK— Wendell Ferreira (@wendellfp) March 20, 2023
Peter King On A Potential Aaron Rodgers Trade
King thinks that the Green Bay Packers can get a first but it needs to be conditional. His idea for compensation would be a 2023 second-round pick and a 2025 conditional pick. This conditional pick would be a 1st if Rodgers plays in 2024 and a 3rd if he does not. This seems like a good middle road and has the potential to help the Packers down the road if Rodgers decides to play more than one season. I wouldn’t discount the value of a second-round pick either. After all, Davante Adams and Christian Watson were both second-round picks.

The Contract
I think the contract is what is going to prevent the Packers from getting a first-round pick outright. Rodgers is due a lot of money and the Jets would have to take on at least some of that. Spending all of that money plus throwing in a first-round pick is a lot. However, the conditional nature of the 2025 pick is the perfect solution. If he plays, the Packers get compensated, and if he doesn’t the team still gets compensated just not as well. It seems like a fair deal for everyone.
Honestly, I am in the boat that this just needs to get done. Even if it isn’t a first-round pick, the deal just needs to be done. The Packers could benefit from a mid-round pick and the saga will be officially over. It will be interesting to see who blinks first and if this deal gets done this week or drags on for a while.
