Deep breaths Brewers’ fans. It’s a new day. This afternoon’s game at Wrigley Field features Freddy Peralta and Adbert Alzolay. The two starters have previously met twice already. This will be their third time facing off against one another.
Adbert Alzolay: What will the Brewers see from him?
This is Alzolay’s third go-around with the Brewers lineup. This time, the Brewers do not have their core players in the lineup like Lorenzo Cain and Christian Yelich. As of late, the Brewers have been able to get the job done without Cain and Yelich. Now that Kolten Wong is healthy, he can finally start his season and get in a groove. Wong went 3-for-4 in yesterday’s loss with a stolen base.
The Brewers’ offense is all Alzolay knows. He returned from the Cubs alternate training site recently to add veteran Shelby Miller to the roster. The Cubs did so to keep Alzolay on a regular schedule. In his last two starts, he has given up seven runs in 10.1 innings against Milwaukee. The Brewers’ offense will mostly see fastballs and sliders from Alzolay with the occasional curveball and changeup.
Freddy P
Freddy Peralta is coming off of a no-decision in his last start against the Pirates. The one aspect that stands out about Freddy Peralta this year is his confidence. Adding the new pitch to his arsenal and tweaking his mistakes benefits him greatly, and it shows. For reference, Peralta’s strikeouts per nine innings (K/9) is 15.50, and New York Mets’ ace Jacob deGrom’s is 15.517. Basically, they strike out a ton of batters. In Peralta’s past two starts against Chicago, he has held their offense to a 0.88 batting average, only giving up three hits. Going into today’s contest, Peralta is 2-0 with a 2.00 ERA and 31 strikeouts.

The Brewers will be without one of their starters for the time being. Brett Anderson gave up three runs and recorded one out in his last start. The club responds by calling up Phil Bickford, who made his major league debut last season. The club is unsure about the timeline of Anderson’s return. Brewers beat reporter Adam McCalvy reported that Anderson’s MRI actually showed the upper part of his calf is injured.
The club is sending Christian Yelich to Milwaukee for an MRI on his back. Manager Craig Counsell says, “With Christian, we’ve unfortunately hit a bit of a plateau here.” In better news, Lorenzo Cain will resume baseball activities. There is no word on when he will return to the lineup.
