Injury is one of, if not the main issue, the Green Bay Packers are dealing with ahead of their wildcard clash with the Philadelphia Eagles but safety Xavier McKinney’s words might make their fans feel a little bit better.
Key players on the injured list for the Packers are quarterback Jordan Love, wide receivers Romeo Doubs and Chrstian Watson, and cornerback Jaire Alexander.
So far, only Love and Doubs are positively doubtful since they joined the recent practice while Watson and Alexander are done for the season.
McKinney, however, spilled they will get the reinforcement they need before game time.
Talking to reporters about the return of fellow safety Evan Williams who last played in Decemceber 16 against the Seattle Seahawks, McKinney hinted that their defense will get a major lift with the return of other players.
“It’s good to have him back. I think we’re getting the majority of our guys back, too, especially on the defensive side, so it’s good to be back out there with everybody and have everybody get back healthy,” he said as quoted by Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.
Xavier McKinney calls on team to be mentally ready vs Jalen Hurts
McKinney is having a career season with the Packers. He was recently named official NFL All-Pro team after getting the Pro Bowl honors last week.
The Packers will need more of him come the wildcard round and he knows it.
They will face a potent offensive team led by Jalen Hurts and McKinney said they got to be ready for the Eagles quarterback saying the game will not be decided by just one player.
“Mentally, we’ve got to be ready to out-compete them, and I think that’s what it is,” McKinney said through the Philadlelphia Inquirer.
“It’s no really X’s and O’s that I can give you behind that. It’s just more so of, OK, are you going to go in there and win your matchup? Am I going to go in there and win my one-on-one? That’s really all it’s going to boil down to this game.”
