It will be a reunion of some sort for some New York Giants players in the wildcard round of NFC as Xavier McKinney of the Green Bay Packers gets hosted by Saquon Barkley of the Philadelphia Eagles for the first round of the NFL 2024-25 playoffs.
Both McKinney and Barkley left the Giants in 2023 and they found individual success with their new teams.
It is now time for them to lock horns in a more prominent game after crossing paths in Week 1 of the current season with the Eagles coming out on top.
That Week 1 game alone informed the Packers of what Barkley can do and McKinney knows he is someone his team needs to be wary of come January 13.
“He knows how I feel about him, so I ain’t going to keep hyping him up too much,” McKinney said as quoted by Forbes Rob Reischel.
“He’s a really good player, man, and we’ve got to be on our P’s and Q’s or he’s one of those guys that can wreck a game. So we’ve got to be aware of that.”
The numbers speak for the Eagles running back.
He recently just won the rushing title with 2,005 yards, doing it in just one game. His first game this season which just so happened to be against the Packers, looks like a warning. He scored three touchdowns against McKinney’s team – two rushing and one receiving.
Xavier McKinney is as elite as Saquon Barkley
Barkley is special but Packers got a reliable safety for themselves, too.
McKinney is having a career season with his eight interceptions. He was recently named to the Pro Bowl, his first in career.
It is an individual award but the 26-year-old insists that it only happened because of his team. Barkley should be concerned about that part as it is not just one man who will try to stop him.
“So really, it’s not even about me. It’s about that guys that have helped me get to this point,” he said after being told of the news about his award.
