Now, as the NFL Playoffs are set to get underway when the Packers head to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles, one of Gutekunst’s marquee signings is garnering major recognition and praise from his fellow players across the league.
Xavier Mckinney Chosen as NFLPA All-Pro
Safety Xavier McKinney developed into not only one of the Packers’ most prolific defenders but also one of the defense’s most respective leadership voices during his first season in Green Bay.
Wednesday, the NFLPA announced McKinney was named the free safety on the player-selected All-Pro Team that was chosen by active NFL players who play the position and line up against the position they were voting for.
McKinney finished the 2024 campaign with a career-high eight interceptions while adding 88 total tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss, one fumble recovery, and tying a career-high 11 pass breakups.
“When he came here, when we signed him when we went out to dinner together, I had a really good feel – just initial gut feel – that this is a dude,” Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters of McKinney this spring. “And my experience with him up to this point is exactly that. He is a dude, and we’re fortunate to have him here.”
In a lot of ways, McKinney became a centerpiece of defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley’s secondary, the fuse that lit a scheme predicated by strong defensive back play.
Wednesday’s honor follows McKinney being voted to this year’s Pro Bowl Games, as well.
