The Green Bay Packers were among one of the favorites to trade for Houston Texans star receiver Brandin Cooks. Several other teams were considered to be interested in trading for Cooks including the Minnesota Vikings, Los Angeles Rams, and the New York Giants. However, the trade deadline came and went, resulting in Cooks staying put in Houston. However, suspicion grew as Cooks missed practice hours before the trade deadline.
Brandin Cooks did not seem happy about the Texans being unable to move him before the deadline. He took to Twitter to share his frustrations.
Don’t take a man’s kindness for granted. Covered for the lies for too long those days are done. Crossed the line with playing with my career 🏹

People are now starting to question why Cooks signed a two-year, 39.8 million contract extension earlier this year. He had to know that the Texans weren’t going to be contenders in the near future. Nevertheless, a Brandin Cooks trade never materialized. According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano Cooks’ fully guaranteed $18 million salary in 2023 was a “major impediment” in trade negotiations.
Packers trade pursuit for Cooks
Before yesterday’s trade deadline, Green Bay looked like a likely landing spot for Brandin Cooks. The Packers are in desperate need of a new wide receiver. Maybe the asking price for Cooks was too rich. Houston was apparently seeking at least a second round pick in exchange for Cooks. Without making a deal before the deadline Packers fans are wondering if Green Bay’s next move could come via free-agency. Packers fans are clinging on to a small amount of hope that Odell Beckham Jr could sign with Green Bay. With the trade deadline in the rearview mirror will the Packers still try to acquire a WR or are they content with who they have now?
