With 25 touchdowns scored on passes, 10 on rushing TDs, and only two games left in the season, the Green Bay Packers will end the season with more TDs via pass than run for the 34th consecutive year. That is the current longest streak in the NFL.

In 1988, the Packers ended the season with 13 TD passes and 14 rushing TDs. That was the last time the team had more rushing TDs than passing TDs in a season.

This year, through each team’s first 15 games, there are 25 teams that have more passing TDs than rushing in the league. Six had more rushing TDs than passing: Philadelphia (31 rushing/24 passing), Tennessee (16/14), New York Giants (18/14), Cleveland (19/14), Carolina (16/13) and Pittsburgh (14/10). The Bears are the only NFL team to have the same number of passing and rushing TDs this season with 17.

Pass TDs account for 60% of scrimmage scores this season in NFL

Passing TDs have accounted for just over 60% of the touchdowns from scrimmage this year. There have been 669 passing TDs and 441 rushing TDs. The team with the biggest disparity between passing and rushing TDs this season are the Kansas City Chiefs; they have 37 passing TDs and 14 rushing TDs, a difference of 23. The Packers’ 15-TD disparity between their 25 passing and 10 rushing scores ranks tied for seventh in the league in this stat.

In their history, the Packers have had five seasons where the pass TD/run TD disparity has been 30 or more. The biggest disparity for the Pack was in 2011 when they had 51 TDs via pass and only 12 by run, a difference of 39. The team went on to a 15-1 record that season.

Packers seasons with largest disparity between pass and run touchdowns

Here are the Packers’ seasons with a TD disparity of 30 or more.

    2011: 51 TD passes/12 TD runs (39)
    2020: 48 TD passes/16 TD runs (34)
    2012: 40 TD passes/9 TD runs (31)
    1996: 39 TD passes/9 TD runs (30)
    1995: 39 TD passes/9 TD runs (30)

There are 10 NFL teams that entered the 2022 season with active streaks of 15 or more years with more TD passes than TD runs in a season. The Packers led the way with 33 straight seasons. Here are the other teams with streaks of 15 or more seasons with more passing TDs than rushing TDs. (Through 2021 season; 2022 totals not added until after end of season).
